Upon arrival at NJP Railway Station, Bagdogra Airport (IXB), or Siliguri, you will be greeted by our company representative. From there, begin your scenic journey to Bhareng via Jorethang and Okhrey. This 128 km drive takes about 6 to 7 hours. Unlike most treks that start from Manebhanjang, our route begins from the Sikkim side, offering a more immersive experience of the Sandakphu–Phalut trail. Along the way, enjoy views of the evergreen Teesta River. We'll take a short break at Lohapool after about 3 hours of travel, and stop for lunch at Jorethang after crossing the Sikkim check post. The final stretch of 60 km continues via Sombaria and Okhrey before reaching Bhareng. Upon arrival, check into your homestay or lodge and relax. Overnight stay at Bhareng.
After breakfast, begin your first day of trekking from Bhareng to Alubari via Gorkhey. The initial 4 km takes you through dense pine forests to the beautiful village of Gorkhey, nestled beside the Gorkhey Khola and Rammam Khola rivers, right on the Sikkim–Bengal border. Just 2 km away lies another charming village called Samanden. After a short break at Gorkhey, continue the uphill trek. The next 2 km are steep, followed by a more gradual climb through the Singalila National Park forest to reach the Alubari campsite. This is one of the most adventurous and thrilling camping spots on the Sandakphu trail. Overnight stay in a dormitory or tent at Alubari.
Post breakfast, start your trek towards Phalut at an altitude of 11,811 ft. This stretch takes around 5 hours and is among the most scenic yet easier parts of the trail. Phalut offers panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges. On a clear day, you can spot four of the five highest peaks in the world — Lhotse (8,501 m), Everest (8,848 m), Makalu (8,475 m), and the majestic Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), along with numerous peaks of the Sikkim Himalayas. After arriving at the camp, enjoy your lunch and relax outside. In the evening, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of Darjeeling’s twinkling lights and nearby Nepalese villages. Phalut is also a paradise for star trail and Milky Way photography. Overnight stay in a trekkers' hut or tent at Phalut.
Wake early for a mesmerizing sunrise at Phalut Top, where you’ll witness an unforgettable panorama of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest. After breakfast, begin your long but rewarding trek to Sandakphu/Ahal via Sabargram, Thakum, and Charhatta. Though long, the route is along a ridge and offers constant views of snow-capped peaks, making it one of the most scenic and enjoyable walks in the Singalila range. As you hike through high-altitude forests of dwarf rhododendrons and fir trees, the changing landscapes will keep you captivated. At 11,919 ft., Sandakphu is the highest point of the trek. Ahal, where you'll halt for the night, is a magical place to see the Sleeping Buddha formation and the Everest range in full glory during both sunrise and sunset. Overnight stay in a lodge or tent at Ahal.
Start your day early to catch the golden hues of sunrise illuminating the Kanchenjunga and Everest ranges. After breakfast, begin the descent to Srikhola. This 14 km trek takes about 6 hours and leads you through lush forests that are great for birdwatching. After about 10 km, you’ll reach Gurdum, a peaceful mountain village where lunch will be served. From here, a final 4 km up-and-down trail leads to Srikhola. Once you arrive, relax with some tea and snacks, and enjoy a peaceful moment by the riverside. Overnight stay in a trekkers’ hut or lodge at Srikhola.
After breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to NJP, Bagdogra Airport (IXB), or Siliguri, which takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. Depart with unforgettable memories of the Sandakphu–Phalut adventure.
